Swimming like the Good Ol Days... Kind of !

Tonight... I was going to head up to UC to swim with the boys, but I decided to go out on a limb and ask my brother Travis if he wanted to swim with me up at Mercy.

My plan: warm up 200
4 x 500 with 100 fin drill in between RPE 3 on Evens RPE 5 on odds
cool down 200

not a lot, but a solid amount for a Tuesday night swim, and for swimming by myself, and hopefully with my brother. Back in the Good ol days... Mom used to drop the three of us off at the pool early in the morning for practice, and then claim her spot with her towel.

And he came! :) It was fun to be in the lane with the younger lad who used to kick my butt in the pool... He kept complaining at the fact I was too slow, and I laughed and said endurance my lad, endurance. I just kept remembering to reach out, and try to have a pretty stroke (after reading an article about pretty strokes in the recent Tri Magazine. And I have to say... I felt pretty good wooping up on my younger swimmer. Of course, he kept saying "breast stroke is my stroke... my shoulders are numb.... you are too slow" I kept hitting the wall and going again when he was "catching his breath.... RESTING"

It was a great time, later that night he even said "want to go for a run, for a second part your race" I laughed, and I stated that if he would find a bike, I would pay for his MUSU Triathlon, and train with him for this... being it was my first Tri, and it would be fun for him to do it as well. He actually looked like he might ponder the idea..

There is a blogger I have been reading from and he posted this quote... he often has great reads, and this quote hit right at home, especially as I determine to venture outside, or suck it up and run on the treadmill today.... until next time :) KEEP ON SWIMMING!

"There are two kinds of people in this world. The Ninety-Nines and the Ones.“The Ninety-Nines... That’s what I call ‘em. Ninety-nine out of a hundred people can’t fathom what I do. They scratch their heads, can’t believe my dedication to this great sport. Many don’t even think this a sport or that I have a life. Never let others define your ‘life’ for you. This is what I have chosen. This is the road I’ve taken, with all the potholes, bumps, and turns. The Ninety-Nines, they can’t commit 100% to being their best, to step up one day and stand tall among the giants.”
